A healthy diet and lifestyle during pregnancy is essential to ensure the best start in life for your baby, as well as improving your general well being. 


  • Take a multivitamin designed especially for pregnancy with folic acid, iodine, iron and vitamin B, to help give you and your baby the right balance of vitamins and nutrients throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Visit your healthcare professional for regular check ups. 
  • Eat a well balanced diet with plenty of complex carbohydrates, protein, fresh fruits and vegetables. Regular exercise will enhance your wellbeing and is of benefit during labour. 
  • Limit or eliminate caffeine intake from coffee, tea, soft drinks and chocolate. 
  • Eliminate cigarettes (including second-hand smoke), alcohol and recreational drugs. These can cause serious, long-term damage to your baby. 
  • Only take medicines prescribed or approved by your healthcare professional.
